My ipods havebt broke yet, no problems whatsoever  then again I've only had them iun the last few months 
(I have had many phones break due to "water damage" ie. the phone company refuses to fix them and makes up some stupid reason

mine nearly died, it got bricked for a while, with a message on the screen saying podzilla in blue with a black background and nothing worked, it happened while i was setting up ipod linux, but then it took 3 hours to bring it back, i made my ipod come back to life..
